The Honorable
LaTonya Boyce (2015-2025)

Probate Court

Former Probate Judge LaTanya Marie Greer Trahan Boyce was born in St. Louis, Missouri, to Walter Rush Greer (who has gone to be with the Lord) and Dolores Williams Greer Jones. Born on October 5, 1955, she is the eldest of four daughters: Debra, Cheryl, and Pam. Her youngest sister, Evangelyn, was born in the Philippines through the union of her father and Nimfa Greer, enriching their family with a beautiful blend of social and cultural diversity.

LaTanya’s childhood was shaped by travel and cultural experiences as her family lived in Greece, Taiwan, the Philippines, and various locations throughout the United States during her father’s military service. These early experiences cultivated her appreciation for people, cultures, and community.

In 1971, during her high school years, her family relocated to Alamogordo, New Mexico—often called an oasis in the desert. Arriving at night, the brightly lit town appeared to be a large city, only for the family to discover the desert landscape by morning. Her parents transitioned from military life into civilian life, purchasing a home in Otero County, where LaTanya would eventually plant deep roots and embrace her calling to serve the community.

Throughout her life in Otero County, LaTanya has achieved several historic firsts. In the 1990s, she became the first Black American woman to serve as an Escrow Officer in the region. She was also among the first African American women licensed as a minister in Otero County. On January 8, 2015, she was appointed as the first Black Otero County Probate Judge, later elected to serve two additional terms, concluding her service on August 8, 2025. She credits her perseverance through challenges and spiritual warfare to her faith in Jesus Christ.

Professionally and spiritually, LaTanya serves as an Elder in her church, an encouraging public speaker, author, and community servant. She has served as a Prayer Chaplain and as a producer with the local Christian television station KVBA-TV. She produced numerous 28-minute television programs titled Stay in the Race from June 2004 through October 2020, sharing messages of faith and perseverance. In November 2016, she was ordained as an Elder, continuing her commitment to spiritual growth and service.

LaTanya is also an author. Her published works include her testimony book Stay in the Race and Live, her children’s book Blaise, Did You Pray?, and her recent release, Letting Go! You’re Not Losing Anything By Letting Go.

Above all, she treasures her role as a mother, grandmother to Cyrus Daniels, Caycia Daniel Ramirez, Imani Trahan, and Lennox Trahan, and great-grandmother to Nalu Ramirez and his brother.
